Belfast Sprint Regatta is the only open regatta held on the River Lagan, where two crews race side by side from a start pontoon at the Governor’s Bridge to the boathouse at Belfast Rowing Club. Both lanes are fully buoyed throughout the 500m between the start and the finish, with the fastest crews taking under two minutes to complete the course. A good start is therefore essential!
This race offers something for rowers of all ages and abilities. From beginners enjoying their very first regatta to international athletes looking to perfect their racing starts, from teenage rowers to octagenarian veterans of the sport – the Belfast Sprint Regatta caters to them all.
Spectators can watch exciting, close races along the length of the course or even from the start at the Governor’s Bridge! The transformation of the usually quiet River Lagan into a hive of activity and crews giving it there all is a truly magnificent spectacle. The BBQ is always popular for refuelling between races!
